1st / 2nd October 2006 -
Blackpool Illuminations
A family holiday to Blackpool to see the
illuminations. The photos shown here were taken on the second and third full
days of our break. To see pictures taken during the first full day of this
holiday, please go to the September 2006 collection
where they can be found at the bottom of the page.
7th October 2006 - East
Anglian Water Cannon
A trip over to East Anglia for the DRS hauled
water cannon could be considered to be somewhat unsuccessful. Although we
managed a couple of sunny shots, the first shot became backlit about 15 minutes
before the train came, and the second shot suffered from dipping sun as the
train passed. The digital shot at the second location has been recovered by
photographing the scene fully lit and then merging the two shots. It is a great
improvement on the original, but is still not right and will need another visit
to this location to have another go at getting the train in top light. A 60 on
6E38 and a few MML workings were also pulled in on the way home.
8th October 2006 - Sheffield
Night Photting Session
With the autumn water cannon season well
underway, it was time for a night photting session at Sheffield before the water
cannon locos get too dirty. The very clean 20304 and the not so clean 20301 were
the locos caught on camera along with several units and a HST.
24th October 2006 -
Sheffield Trams
While the wife shopped at Meadowhall, I took
a tram ride down into Sheffield city centre to get a few tram phots. It is not
really the right time of year to be photographing in the city centre as there
are too many shadows to contend with and half of the shots are just simply not
on. However, I did manage a few nice shots, though the shots of the day were the
last couple that I took at Meadowhall South with the elevated M1 motorway and a pair of cooling towers
against a dramatic black sky.
25th October 2006 - Dodgy
Night Phot of 47826 at Leicester
47826 pausing at Leicester with a Salisbury
to Lincoln railtour.
28th October 2006 - Trams in
the Dark
I spent the evening at the Crich Tramway
Village's Halloween event as it involved trams running in the dark. Night
photography was somewhat difficult as the place is not lit that well, and with a
lot of people around it was sometimes hard to get a clear shot. However, with a
bit of patience it was possible to get one or two nice shots.
29th October 2006 - Trams on
Merseyside
I paid a visit to the Merseyside Tramway
Preservation Society in Birkenhead as they were operating two trams in
conjunction with a model railway exhibition. Birkenhead 20 was one of the chosen
trams, and when we enquired what the other tram was going to be, the answer was
"Which tram do you want it to be?" So, Liverpool 762 was chosen, and
despite the best efforts of several banks of clouds, we did manage a few sunny
shots. I would like to say that the MTPS members that we spoke to and who were
manning the trams were extremely welcoming and very helpful - thanks. This
little tramway is well worth a visit, see http://www.mtps.co.uk/index.html
for more details. I didn't get all the shots that I wanted on this day, but
that's OK as it makes a great excuse to go back to Birkenhead another day.
