2nd February 2008 - EMRPS
Does a Bit of Steam
An EMRPS night shoot at the Churnet Valley
Railway, and unusually for an EMRPS shoot, a steam loco was the centre of
attention. The Churnet Valley put on a great show for us with a mucky Standard 4
tank, a green 47, a tatty blue 33 and a superb pair of green DMU's. In fact, the
two DMU's were stars of the show and really helped to set the period scene. A
big thank you to the lads at the Churnet Valley, the participating photographers
and the lighting crew who did the usual superb job.
9th February 2008 - Didcot
Night Shoot and a Few Mainline Bits
I attended an excellent night shoot organised
by Martin Creese at the Didcot Railway Centre. As it was a good forecast, I
decided to head to Didcot earlier in the day to do a bit of mainline photting
before the main event. There was nothing spectacular on the mainline, but a few
freights were captured before I went in to the Didcot Railway Centre for some
afternoon sunny shots followed by the night shoot. A big thanks to Martin and
the volunteers at Didcot, and also to Buzz for helping me with the lighting.
10th February 2008 - Tractor
Fix & Tram Fix
I casually awoke and for some reason looked
at my Blackberry before getting out of bed. A message from 'Captain Toast'
reported two 37's leaving Derby on a test train and heading my way. With only
minutes to spare, I made it to the closest location to my house that offered any
sort of shot - the overbridge at Rushey Mead. It was pressure on as I needed the
train to be on the fast. Thankfully it was and I nailed it! Then my good lady
wife said that we should do something together for the rest of the day, so I
dropped her off in Nottingham and went tram photting (somehow, I got away with
that - women and shopping, what a winning formula!).
16th February 2008 - D1015
to Holyhead
Top forecast and a top loco - how could I
resist?!
17th February 2008 -
Nottingham Trams From an Unusual Vantage Point
A large Ferris Wheel was in action in the Old
Market Square in Nottingham, and I could not resist a ride on it in an attempt
to get a few photos of the trams from above. To get the best light angle, I
needed to be one of the first in the queue when it opened. Sadly, although I was
there and ready to board, there was a problem with the wheel due to frost, and I
didn't get to head skyward until an hour later, by which time the sun was head
on to trams as they entered the Old Market Square. That said, it was still an
impressive place from which to take photos. It was then back down to earth for a
few phots before heading home.
23rd February 2008 - BR Blue
at the Nene Valley Railway
An EMRPS photo charter at the Nene Valley
Railway with BR blue locos 24081, 27066, 33053 and 47270. Unfortunately, due to
a dodgy back, I had to sit out the daylight shoot and thus missed out on a few
sunny shots of the small Sulzers. However, I was able to join in with the night
shoot and got some nice shots of all four locos in various positions around
Wansford station. 47270 was only finished a couple of hours before it took part
in the night shoot, and Neil Boden and his team must be thanked for their
efforts - the loco looks stunning!
A big thank you to all the volunteer crews, the participating photographers, the
lighting crew, and a special thanks to Ian Holmes for running the daylight shoot
for me in my absence.
