4th June 2008 - Cossington
An hour or so at Cossington on a sunny
evening. Most freights came through while the sun wasn't shining, but a new
Freightliner cement working managed to hit the sun along with a couple of EMT
liveried trains.
5th June 2008 - Cossington
Again
Called in at Cossy for a few minutes prior to
work.
7th June 2008 - Blackpool
Trams
A random visit to Blackpool to photograph the
trams. The day started cloudy, had a few short sunny intervals during the day,
but then razzed up to give a superb end to the day. Highlight of the day was the
use of green and cream 712 on the Fleetwood service, and the appearance of 700
around tea time made the day complete. It was also nice to pull in a few
locations on the tramway that I have never photographed before.
8th June 2008 - Crich
Tramathon
The annual Tramathon event at Crich took
place on this day. Unfortunately, there was rather a lot of cloud about, so I
didn't get that as many shots as I would have liked.
9th June 2008 - Freight
Session at Wychnor Junction
Took a mad dash to Wychnor Junction to get
56311 on 4O90 and ended up with three coal trains as a bonus.
14th June 2008 -
Random Saturday
Family stuff prevented me from going too far
away from home, so I took a trip over to Banbury for my first taste of the loco
hauled WSMR services. I only stayed for one working before heading over to Water
Orton for 56311 on 4E90, but this failed and was a no show (but it was clouding
up anyway).
19th June 2008 -
Gypsum
An early morning shot of the Hotchley Hill
gypsum train crossing Stanford on Soar viaduct.
22nd
June 2008 - Blowy Blackpool
I spent the day in Blackpool for the
Lancashire Transport Trust's annual 'Totally Transport' event. The event was
fantastic and was very enjoyable. However, the weather tried it's best to ruin
the day. It didn't rain at all, though it was cloudy for most of the day, but
the wind was gusting up to approximately 65mph, and at times it was most
unpleasant. The sea did it's best to chuck waves over my head while taking a
photo of Coronation 304 (in sun!) at Talbot Square, and the wind was so bad down
some of the streets at the back of the Tower, that the police had to close
them on safety grounds as people were literally falling over and any loose
objects were sent flying through the air. The sea was the roughest I have ever
seen it in Blackpool (I'm sure locals will have seen worst), and I have included
a shot below that I took of the sea just after I had received a drenching.
Tram wise, vintage trams 147, Bolton 66, 623 and Coronations 660 and 304 were
all out on North Pier to Starr Gate specials, though Bolton 66 and 147 had to
return to depot early due to the high winds. The sun only appeared a few times
during the day, and I was able to meet a blue patch at Talbot Square in the
afternoon for a few shots, then 715 was captured on South Promenade in strong
but not quite full sun, and finally 680 scuttled off back to depot in a brief
sunny spell.
28th
June 2008 - Anglia
Decided to have a crack at the class 47
hauled drags that operate between Norwich and Great Yarmouth. I didn't have much
luck to begin with, and the first arrival in Yarmouth missed the sun by about a
minute. The next train from Norwich was captured passing Reedham in cloud, and
the subsequent return passed the same spot in a chink of hazy sun. Both of these
images have been digitally enhanced to make them look sunnier than they were.
Next up was the final arrival shot at Yarmouth which was in full sun (at last).
Then the stock then went ECS back to Norwich via Acle, so we had a try at the
windmill shot on the Acle line, where it could not have been much duller, so we
moved on to Postwick. After standing under a large cloud for what seemed an
eternity, the train finally appeared seconds after the scene had become fully
lit. The final shot of the day was taken at Dunston of a class 90 heading for
London, shortly after which the light collapsed and it was time for home.
30th
June 2008 - 60074
My first attempt at a shot of 60074 in it's
pale blue livery, and all I could manage was squiffy sunshine.
