Early Morning Tugs
Ooerr, that title sounds a bit dodgy! I got
up early in the hope that 60074 would be on 6M94 Margam to Corby steel coils.
However, I found out before leaving the house that it wasn't 60074, it was
60054. With it's tatty Trainload Petroleum livery it is arguably more worthy of
being photographed than 60074. The location chosen was the Syston bypass bridge,
which is probably the only local location that gets any light for this train
although a long lens has to be used to get past the shadows. After this, I
received a top tip that 60043 was on the Toton to Forders, so I did the usual
two shot move at Cossington and the Syston bypass bridge.
2nd July 2008 - Never Mind
the Early Morning Tugs Crap, It's Tractor Time
37401 dropped on to the Burton trip, and for
once I was able to make a move prior to work. Big up to everyone who posted the
gen and updates on this working.

Carnforth
to Norwich ECS
47760 (with 47851 dead on the rear) worked a
5Z67 Carnforth to Norwich ECS which dropped nicely for a couple of shots at
Cossington and the Syston bypass bridge.

Crich Tramway Village Edwardian Weekend
Crich Tramway Village staged their annual
'Edwardian Weekend' event which included the use of a horse tram. Having never
photographed a horse tram in action, I decided to attend and thought the event
was absolutely superb. There were loads of photographic opportunities and plenty
of re-enactors to include in photos.
Below are a selection of images taken at the event that do not include trams.
12th July 2008 - GCR
A couple of sunny shots of 78019 while it
waited to depart with the 1635 departure from Loughborough Central.

Foxfield Chopper
An EMRPS photo charter with class 20 number
20154 at the Foxfield Railway. This charter was not as well supported as we
would have liked, but those who could make it were rewarded with every shot in
sunshine. The loco looked absolutely ace in weathered BR green with full yellow
ends and TOPS numbers. A big thanks to all the photographers who supported the
event and to everyone at Foxfield who made the event possible.

Late Night Ped
A late night visit to Derby to photograph the
barrier vehicles being shunted into the platforms. These barrier vehicles are to
act as protection for the north end of platforms 4 and 6 while the station is
being rebuilt. Normally a duty for the Serco class 08, it came as somewhat of a
surprise when 31105 turned up.
19th July 2008 -
Lord Nelson
Stayed local and had a crack at 850 'Lord
Nelson' which was in action at the GCR. Also managed a jammy sunny shot of the
Peak.
20th July 2008 - Tram Sunday
The annual 'Tram Sunday' event took place in
Fleetwood, and this year the star of the show was Balloon car 717 which was
fresh in traffic following an extensive heritage rebuild. Besides 717 there were
quite a few other trams of interest in action and plenty of sunshine as well.

Family holiday to the Isle of Wight
This year's family holiday was taken in the
Isle of Wight. After travelling out via the Lymington to Yarmouth ferry, there
followed a week of various activities, but I was able to set aside some time to
record the Island Line class 483 units (former London Transport 1938 stock). I
never really liked the Dinosaur livery that these units all carried at one time,
but thankfully only one unit remains in this livery, with the rest wearing a
very pleasing version of London Transport red and cream livery. I was able to
find one or two nice locations, and I was very pleased with the photos that I
left the Island with. I would have liked to have also paid a visit to the Isle
of Wight Steam Railway, but I decided to give it a wide berth after I found out
that Thomas the Tank Engine and Friends were paying the line a visit for some of
the week while I was on the Island. I cannot complain though, as the fussy
little tube trains kept me occupied for much of the week.

August 1992 - Isle of Wight Flashback
By comparison, when I last visited the Isle
of Wight back in 1992, all of the 1938 stock was in Network South East livery,
the 03's were still on the island, and a train of class 485 stock was still
dumped in the headshunt at Ryde. Sadly, I picked a very dull and wet day for my
visit, and these shots are not the best of quality, but it is interesting to
look back.
