4th July 2009 - Hastings
Unit
Hastings DEMU 1001 was working a Hastings to
Nottingham railtour and was captured in a lucky patch of sun at East Goscote.
19th July 2009 -
Tram Sunday
The annual Fleetwood Transport Festival (also
known as 'Tram Sunday') took place on this day, and Blackpool Transport operated
a vintage tram service alongside the normal service. In addition, the Western
Train and the Illuminated Trawler were on display at Ash Street. The weather
wasn't much cop, when the sun did come out it was a bit wishy washy for much of
the day, but the light did improve at the end of the day when the Western Train
was captured at Bispham while heading back to depot.
25th July 2009 -
ECML For a Blue Van
The ECML south of Grantham was the subject of
a couple of hours worth of photography, the highlight of which was 87002 on a
southbound tour with a full rake of blue and grey stock in tow.
27th-30th July 2009 - Family
Holiday to Prague in the Czech Republic
This year's family holiday was to the
Czech capital Prague. We set off from Leicester early on Sunday morning by coach
and after an overnight stop in Aachen, we arrived in Prague on Monday evening.
We then had three full days in Prague before setting off back towards England
early on Friday morning, and after once again overnighting in Aachen, we arrived
back home late on Saturday evening. Travelling by coach is of course not the
quickest way to get to Prague, but there is a lot to be said for relaxing in a
comfortable seat and watching the world pass your window.
I also took plenty of 'normal' photographs of some of the sights of Prague, and
these can be found by clicking here.
27th July 2009 - Prague (Day
1)
Arriving at our hotel at 1830, there was just
time to find the nearest tram stop before our evening meal. After the meal, we
once again headed down to the tram stop to work out ticketing options and take a
few dusk shots.
28th July 2009 - Prague (Day
2)
Our first full day in Prague, and first thing
it was absolutely tipping it down with rain. Thankfully the rain stopped and we
caught a number 7 tram into Prague. Eventually, the cloudy skies broke and there
was the chance for a few sunny shots of trams in the street followed by an hour
or so at Prague's main railway station, the highlight of which was a Polish
version of a BR class 83 stabled at the north end of the station. Finally, I
took the opportunity to take a few night shots. I had not taken my tripod with
me so these all had to be hand held.
29th July 2009 - Prague (Day
3)
The weather for day 3 was forecast to be
quite mega, and so it proved to be. Lots of opportunities for train and tram
pictures including a couple of pre-planned shots that I had researched on the
internet in the weeks leading up to the holiday. These were the railway shot at
Lihovar just south of Smichov station and the shot of trams climbing Pod
Chotkova. I also fell upon a nice shot of trams passing the Staropramen brewery
which I happened to notice as we passed by on a line 7 tram heading back to our
hotel.
30th July 2009 - Prague (Day
4)
Our final full day in Prague dawned pretty
much as good as the previous day, though bubble up cloud and some squiff were to
prove slightly troublesome at times throughout the day. Nevertheless, plenty
more shots were recorded to the memory card before the light finally totally
collapsed around tea time.
